Our walls were finally finished at the end of last week. We are supposed to get the painters started tomorrow (Tuesday). The walls look great and really help make the house look more like a house.

There hasn’t been much to picture lately, but the progress does continue, albeit slowly. The drywall hanging was completed followed by the preliminary mud application and then the 1st regular mud application. It still looks pretty much the same as it did when the walls were hung, though with a slightly different surface look. Today they are supposed to do the 2nd mud. Then, I guess they have to come back once more before they’re done, but I’m not sure what they’re supposed to do then. There has also been some work on the patio overhang, making the posts, etc look nice. They aren’t done with that yet, though. They have also started on finishing the fascia installation but really haven’t gotten very far.
The plan for next week is painters!
The 2 barn swallow babies are bigger and flying around almost like pros. No pictures. They’re much harder to picture now that they’re flying! Additionally, we happened to see Sister come up with a bird in her mouth. She put it down and we investigated. It was a barn swallow baby that didn’t seem hurt at all. So, we picked it up and took it, or so we thought, back to the loft (blue barn). Turns out it was not one of our loft babies. Nevertheless, we left it there and in the meantime, it has become buds with the other two and they are all hanging out and flying around. Pretty soon they’re going to be able to fly in/out the people door that’s kept propped open. We also asked Sister to please not hunt the barn swallows (or hummingbirds either) but that she’s welcome to sparrows and mockingbirds and even starlings. Hopefully, she’s good at taking requests!
Today I had 3 helpers checking out the work on the house:
Today we got our shingles and our outside doors! Yay!
We have had a pair of barn swallows nesting in the new barn. They laid eggs and had babies. Then, apparently the babies tried to fledge a bit too soon. They are still actually still alive after a couple days even with the barn cats hanging about. They were already very disciplined, as since they hatched, they never chirped when we were in the barn. Now, they are hanging out in the back corner by the tub holding the solar panel’s battery. They don’t hop, they don’t chirp. They sit very still. Their parents still hang around, and we assume they are still feeding them.
It’s been a very slow few weeks. Small things have happened but nothing very interesting or picture-worthy. The weather has not been our friend lately. Lots and lots of rain which, coincidentally, makes it hard to get concrete poured. Finally, though, we have a patio! Actually, 2 of them!
For those who enjoy our kitties helping with the inspections, Pearl was helping the other day again:
